Cannon's Point Preserve
There is nothing better than to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings in nature during your vacation getaway. St. Simons Island is home to Cannon's Point Preserve, a local wildlife preservation that has been open for decades. Cannon's Point Preserve is an important landmark for St. Simons Island as it has some of the last intact maritime forest left on the island. It is on one of the larger peninsulas for St. Simons Island that stretches out over six miles and contains tidal creeks, river shores, and more. The ruins of John Couper's plantation home can also be seen with a visit to the preserve. Visitors are allowed into the preserve on Saturdays, Sundays, and between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on Mondays. Guests can also volunteer to help work on this beautiful area found only at Cannon's Point Preserve.
Wesley Memorial & Gardens
Another important natural attraction found on St. Simons Island is the elegant Wesley Memorial & Gardens. Those interested in religious history will find plenty to enjoy and explore with a visit to the gardens. This natural attraction is named after the founders of the Methodist church John and Charles Wesley. In addition to the immaculate gardens which are maintained throughout the year, visitors will also find the Celtic cross that is cut from 15 tons of granite. Overall, the gardens sit on two acres that are filled with native plants and trees that can only be found on St. Simons Island. The spring season is a recommended time to visit as visitors can see the blooming azaleas up close. Keep an ear out for the bell tolls that occur every half hour from the Wesley Methodist Church found adjacent to Wesley Memorial & Gardens.
