The following are just a few reasons you’ll want to start booking your summer 2022 getaway today!

Bike Your Way Through an Island Stay

Those who are traveling to St. Simons Island this summer will find that there’s no better way to get around this charming seaside escape than on a bike. Feel free to bring your own and peddle your way through a scenic stay, but if you don’t have the gear you need to get from point A to point B at your own pace, there are plenty of rental options on the island to choose from. MonkeyWrench Bicycles and Ocean Motion are great starting points when you’re looking for bikes for everyone in the family. Investing in a bike rental for the duration of your stay is a wonderful chance to explore the more than 30 miles of trails at your own pace. You’ll see the sights, get in some great exercise and likely meet plenty of other visitors doing exactly the same thing! It’s a way to embrace the culture of St. Simons Island while taking a road that’s all your own.

Hop on the Island Trolley and Take a Look Around

Whether it’s your first summer visiting St. Simons Island or you’re a traveler that returns year after year, taking time to enjoy a ride on the Island Trolley is always a delight! This comprehensive tour starts at the Oak Trees near the pier and gives you a chance to get a look at nearly all of the major landmarks the island hosts while enjoying the historical insight that goes with it. The trolley is easy to spot with its bright red façade and don’t be surprised if you find you’re excited to take the tour a time or two while you’re in town.

Visit the St. Simons Lighthouse

One of the most defining features of the St. Simons Island landscape is the St. Simons Lighthouse. This is a great place to come and grab vacation photos as well as a chance to wander through the attached museum and gift shop. If you’re hoping to enjoy a breathtaking view, consider the climb up the 129 lighthouse stairs which lead to an observation deck offering a vista overlooking the island as well as Brunswick and Jekyll Island in the distance.

Take Time to look for Tree Spirits

Whether you’re traveling to St. Simons Island with friends, or you’re looking forward to a family adventure with the kids, taking time to hunt for tree spirits is always an exciting part of the experience. The island tree spirits are faces carved into oak trees across the island at the hand of artist Keith Jennings. They’re scattered across St. Simons Island and while there are maps available to point them all out at the visitor center, half the fun lies in trying to locate them on your own! Legend has it that the tree spirits honor sailors who lost their lives at sea in vessels that were crafted by the oak of St. Simons Island. It’s fair to say that every time you find one, it feels like finding a treasure!

Embrace the Island’s History

Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean a trip to St. Simons Island can’t be educational for everyone in your traveling crew. When you’re looking to incorporate a history lesson or two into your stay, be sure to set aside time on the itinerary for a visit to Fort Frederica National Monument. This icon of colonial Georgia culture is a great stop when you’re looking to learn more about St. Simons Island’s role in military history. When you’ve taken the Fort Frederica tour, set your sights on some time at Christ Church as well. Situated among oaks on the island’s north end, this is considered the second-oldest Episcopal church in the state. In the nation, it ranks as the third oldest of its kind.

Enjoy a Round of Golf

Many travelers with a passion for golf can’t imagine a trip anywhere without a tee time included. Those heading to St. Simons Island this summer will find there are plenty of course options to choose from! Make your way to the Sea Palms Golf Course when you’re looking to put your skills to the test with water features of all types. This stop includes access to a driving range as well and is a family-friendly place to play a round if the kids are interested in taking to the greens too.
