Traveling to St. Simons Island during the holidays is always one of our favorite reasons to come visit. The cooler weather means that the travel season is slower, allowing you to experience all of the fun activities on the island without crowds. Families will also be able to enjoy their standard Thanksgiving traditions from the comfort of their vacation rentals. Take a look at how you can spend St. Simons Island Thanksgiving celebration this year:

Prepare a Thanksgiving Feast

One of the most popular family traditions when it comes to Thanksgiving is making your own Thanksgiving feast. You can continue this tradition while away from home in the comfort of our vacation rentals. Each property has a spacious kitchen that features all of the cooking ware needed to prepare such a meal. All you need to grab are the actual ingredients which can be obtained from local farmers markets and grocers. You will find the dining room areas have more than enough space to accommodate your entire group.

Jekyll Tree Lighting Festival

The day after Thanksgiving is often when families start to pull out their holiday decorations to get ready for Christmas. One event that also brings out the holiday season is a tree lighting ceremony which is done each year the day after Thanksgiving on Jekyll Island. This nearby island will be hosting their annual Tree Lighting Festival in their Historic District. A variety of Christmas lights and decorations will be on display. Additional festivities include craft workshops, caroling, and themed tours of the area. The tree will be officially lit up at sundown the day after Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Buffet

If you want to start a new tradition of dining out at luxury restaurants for Thanksgiving, make sure to head to Echo, the only beachfront restaurant located on the island. Their Thanksgiving buffet serves up all the entrees including lobster chowder, prime ribeye, and of course turkey. You will also find some breakfast items on the menu for anyone wanting to indulge their morning cravings. The Thanksgiving buffet runs from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Echo and starts at $60 per adult and $30 per child.
